Daniel Freeman will present an entertaining and informative preview of Tristan und Isolde prior to the Met: Live in HD performance of Tristan und Isolde on March 21, 2026.

Using musical excerpts and fascinating historical anecdotes, Daniel Freeman will discuss the historical background, plot, and music of Tristan und Isolde.

Dr. Freeman is a musicologist who has lectured on music at the University of Minnesota and has frequently appeared as a speaker at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.

Registration

There is no admission fee for the Pre-Performance lecture. However, we encourage you to register your RSVP so that we know many people will attend.

The preview lecture will be presented in Auditorium # 3 inside the Marcus West End Cinema. Marcus Cinema will open the main door to the theater at 9:30 am to allow lecture attendees to enter the theater. After the lecture ends at 10:30 am, please move to Auditorium # 2, for the Met: Live in HD performance which begins at 11:00 am.

Directions

The Marcus West End Cinema is located at 1625 West End Blvd, St. Louis Park, MN 55416 (map). On arrival, please tell the box office attendant that you are attending the Wagner Society event.

From Minneapolis, go west on I-394. Beware of the construction on I-394: I-94 and I-394 in Minneapolis project - MnDOT.

The Cinema is just south of I-394 and west of MN-100. Regardless of what direction you come from, you must end up on Park Place Blvd in Saint Louis Park. Turn east on 16th Street, then south (right) on West End Blvd. The Cinema will be on your left. Turn left at the stop sign to park underneath the Cinema. Park on the third level and enter the building leading directly to the Marcus Cinema box office.

From eastbound I-394: Take exit 5A to Park Place Blvd. Turn left onto 16th Street.

From westbound I-394: Westbound I-394 traffic uses the Express Lanes if they are available at all. From I-394, take the exit for MN-100 South/South Frontage Road. Follow the sign for South Frontage Road. At the first stop sign, turn right and continue to the light at Park Place Blvd. Turn left and proceed to 16th Street. Turn left onto 16th Street.

From northbound MN-100: Take the I-394 West exit at the I-394 interchange. Follow the sign for Xenia Park Pl. Turn left at the stoplight for Xenia Ave towards Park Place Blvd.

From southbound MN-100: Take the I-394 West exit at the I-394 interchange. Follow the sign for Xenia Park Pl. Turn left at the stoplight for Xenia Ave towards Park Place Blvd.
